Wood pellets absorbs all liquid and odours and it crumbles into sawdust, which settles at the bottom of the litter box. The fresh wood pellets remain on the top. There are special sifting litter boxes on the market that remove the sawdust automatically but it’s take 5 minute to clean yourself and save £.
It is recommended, you should spot-clean your cat litter tray every day. You need to scoop out the cat poo and some of the sawdust daily when cleaning the wood pellet litter box. If the tray is left to become dirty and used, your cat may prefer to use the floor instead and is not ideal in any household.
Change your wood pellet cat litter completely at least once every week or in case or emergency like diarrhoea in that moment. This super absorbent biodegradable litter soaks up your cat’s mess until they go at the bottom of litter. When you notice the level of pellets is thin, it’s time to clean and replace all of the litter wood pellet. The wood pellet litter will never smell while there are still pellets to soak up cats mess.
If you notice that the litter box has a bad odor after sifting and scooping it’s probably time to change the litter.
Your cat’s sense of smell is about 14/15 times stronger than yours. If smells bad to you, smells much worse for your cat.
Throw out the litter and wash the litter box with water and mild detergent special for cleaning, pet friendly. If the litter box continues to smell after washing, it may be the litter box itself to be change. Because is made from plastic they absorbs odor, plastic litter boxes need to be replaced about once every six months. In homes with multiple cats, you may need to change the litter more frequently.
More cats means more frequent use of the litter boxes. This effect can be partially offset by following the recommendation for the number of litter boxes in the home. One litter box per cat, plus one.
Wood pellets can be used in a regular litter box, but it’s not as efficient. In a standard litter box, sawdust is collected at the bottom and is difficult to fully remove. When this collected sawdust becomes re-soaked by urine, the litter becomes less efficient at controlling odor and bacteria.
To maximize the time between litter changes, a sifting litter box is recommended.
Sifting litter boxes contain a slotted insert at the bottom inside which can be lifted and shaken to separate unsoiled pellets from sawdust.
Today on the market are betters sifting litter boxes with a slotted insert at the bottom inside footed. In this case, sawdust goes under the slotted insert and stay at the buttom of litter box saving wood pellet and cheap the odor close inside if it is.
Keep in mind, not all sifting litter boxes are intended for use with wood pellets. Some are designed to sift granular litter to remove solid waste and clumps. Make sure the sifting litter box you choose is specifically designed for use with wood pellet litter.
As pellets dissolve, they’ll need to be replaced to maintain the level of litter recommended by the manufacturer.
With each changing, thoroughly clean the litter box with water and mild detergent special for cleaning, pet friendly.
Cleaning the litter box itself is an often overlooked aspect of litter box hygiene.
Make sure you choose a tray that is suitable for the size of your cat and fill to a depth of 3cm to 4cm, be careful not to overfill.
Check tray daily and remove any solids, bag and dispose of in the non-recyclable household waste.
Sift, shake and scoop the tray, to bring fresh litter to the surface and sawdust move to the bottom to be easy collected. Top up to maintain the level.
Clean regularly and replace the cat litter weekly or more often if you have more than one cat. When cleaning the tray, use a cat safe cleaning product, pet friendly and ensure that the tray is completely dry before refilling.
For your safty wear gloves when handling soiled cat litter and wash hands thoroughly after disposal.
Nursing and pregnant women should avoid contact with used litter and trays, as babies and young children.
Avoid inhalation when handling cat litter lifting and shaking.
To maximize the life of your litter, scoop solids as soon as possible, sift at least once daily, and top off with fresh pellets to maintain the level of litter recommended.
Litter should be bagged and sent to the landfill. Dumping and flushing used cat litter is not recommended.
The most common way to dispose of wood pellet cat litter is to throw it out with the trash.
Flushed wood pellets and sawdust can cause serious damage to your plumbing system.
In the UK, soiled wood cat litter should never go in the green or brown bin. Used cat litter should only be disposed of in the trash because cat feces may contain toxoplasma gondii, a parasite that can sometimes survive the composting process. Used wood pellet cat litter should not be used directly on a garden.
